Katy Perry, Russell Brand To Divorce

After 14 months of marriage, Katy Perry and Russell Brand are getting a divorce.

According to TMZ, Brand has filed for divorce in Los Angeles, citing "irreconcilable differences." The Associated Press has confirmed that the couple is splitting, with Brand announcing in a statement, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Perry and Brand started dating in late 2009, with the "Get Him to the Greek" actor proposing over the New Year's weekend two years ago. The couple married on Oct. 23, 2010  in a lavish ceremony in India two days before the singer's 26th birthday.

Rumors of a possible split were flying over the Christmas weekend after the couple allegedly spent the holiday apart, and were both photographed without their wedding rings. Brand and Perry do not share any children.

Brand is best known for his role as Aldous Snow, the hard-partying rocker in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek"; last year, he released a soundtrack for the latter film as the fictional group Infant Sorrow.

Meanwhile, Perry is currently trying to make history with her "Teenage Dream" single "The One That Got Away," which sits at No. 3 on the current Hot 100. If the song reaches the top spot on the chart, "The One That Got Away" would be the sixth Hot 100 No. 1 single from "Teenage Dream," surpassing the record set by Michael Jackson's "Bad." On Dec. 10, she served as the host of "Saturday Night Live."

Katy Perry's 'The One That Got Away' Receives B.o.B - Assisted Remix

Capitol Records is adding another weapon in its arsenal to help Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

The label serviced a remix of the song featuring rapper B.o.B to pop and rhythmic radio on December 15. It expects to make the track available for digital purchase as soon as next week.

The first five singles from Perry's album "Teenage Dream" all reached No. 1 - "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg; the title cut, "Firework"; "E.T." (which upon its release as a single featured Kanye West, as opposed to Perry's solo album version); and, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" - making the set just the second, following Michael Jackson's "Bad" (1987-88), to yield five Hot 100 leaders.

If "The One That Got Away" hit No. 1, "Teenage Dream" would become the first album to generate six Hot 100 toppers.

"The One That Got Away" shoots 9-4 on this week's Hot 100, spurred in part by a previous marketing push by Capitol: its 69-cent sale pricing in the iTunes Store. (This week's chart is the first to reflect its sales activity since its digital discount took effect). As of this posting, the song remains the only title among the retailer's top 75 songs available for less than $1.29.

The sale pricing, as well as Perry's hosting gig on last weekend's (Dec. 10) "Saturday Night Live," helps "The One That Got Away" rise with gains in both sales and airplay, as it logs identical 7-6 upticks on Billboard's Digital Songs and Radio Songs charts. On the former chart, it increases by 24% to 117,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. On the latter list, the song improves to 92 million in audience (up 12%), according to Nielsen BDS.

The remix of "The One That Got Away" marks the latest in a trend of labels enlisting high-profile guest stars for remixes as songs approach the Hot 100's summit.

Earlier this year, Island Def Jam released a remix of Rihanna's "S&M" featuring Britney Spears. The following week, the song soared 2-1 on the Hot 100 with a 108% increase to 293,000 downloads sold. RCA's Spears herself welcomed Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha on a remix of "Til the World Ends." On the May 14 Hot 100, the title bounded from No. 11 to its No. 3 peak with a 102% gain to 246,000 in digital sales.

Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" additionally received a remix featuring Missy Elliott, although after it had already topped Digital Songs two months earlier following the premiere of its star-studded video. Unlike the above examples, however, where remixes accounted for a majority of the songs' overall sales once available, the remix of "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" accounted for just 25% of the song's overall digital sales the week after its arrival (with all versions of the song discounted to 69 cents in the iTunes and Amazon mp3 stores in that span). Still, the Missy Elliott remix helped "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" reach the Hot 100's top spot at last after eight weeks in the top five on the Aug. 27 chart.

Britney Spears Engaged to Jason Trawick ! ! !

Britney Spears is reportedly ready to walk down the aisle for a third time: the pop star is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Jason Trawick.

According to Us Weekly, Trawick popped the question on Thursday night (Dec. 15) during a romantic dinner with Spears. Although Spears has not officially announced the engagement, she posted on Twitter Friday morning, "OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I've been waiting for. Can't wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xoxo."

Trawick first met Spears in 2006 while serving as her agent at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment. The pop superstar previously wed childhood friend Jason Alexander in 2004 (a marriage that has annulled within 55 hours) and was later married to Kevin Federline for two years. Spears and Trawick officially became a couple in mid-2010.

The engagement caps off a huge year for Spears, which included the release of another Billboard 200-topping album, "Femme Fatale," collaborations with Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, and an international arena tour.

Thursday also doubled as Trawick's 40th birthday, and Spears posted on Twitter that she bought him a new "Confederate Bike" for the occasion. "He looked so cool in the video, that I had to get him a new motorcycle," Spears wrote, referencing Trawick's cameo in her "Criminal" video.

Taylor Swift Talks About Next Album, Possibly For Late 2012

Taylor Swift has often said she wants to issue albums every two years, and it appears her as-yet-unnamed fourth studio record will meet that standard, giving music retailers a bellwether title for the holiday shopping season in 2012.

Swift says she is "twice as far along," she says, in writing and recording material for her next studio album, than she had been at this point for previous albums. She already has written 25 songs for her next release. "Speak Now," by comparison, had 14 titles on the album's standard version and 17 tracks on a Target-exclusive deluxe edition.

"During the first year of writing the 'Speak Now' album, I was really writing songs that didn't end up on the record because I didn't know what the record was going to be," she says. "Once I kind of locked into what the record was going to be, in the second year I wrote the songs that I was most proud of, like 'Back to December' and 'Mean' and the first single, 'Mine,' and a song called 'Ours.'"

Nathan Chapman, who produced her albums, is overseeing the next as well. Swift wrote the songs on "Speak Now" by herself, though the credits will likely include a few collaborators the next time out.

"I've had two co-writes, and I've written the rest of it by myself," she says. "Co-writing is so much fun when you have time to schedule it in, but for me, usually songs hit me in the middle of the night and I end up writing it before dawn, so there's no time to call somebody. When there is time and you can get in a room and talk it out and work it out with somebody, it's like the coolest form of therapy."

Lady Gaga Releases Holiday EP

Amid her fashion-forward outfits and hyper-choreographed videos, it's easy to forget Lady Gaga's a singer, too. But Mother Monster will have the chance to show off her vocals on a jazzy new holiday EP, "A Very Gaga Holiday," which Gaga released digitally on Wednesday.

The new release includes the Gaga take on "White Christmas" and Nat King Cole classic "Orange Colored Sky," but there's no standard safe in Gaga's hands: her "White Christmas" adds an original verse and finds the singer joking, "O.K., I suppose it's not very white outside yet."

The EP culls from performances from "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving," her new TV special. The 90-minute special, which Gaga herself directed, airs at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC on Thursday.

Rihanna, 'Talk That Talk': Track-By-Track Review

Think of it, Rihanna's sixth studio album, arrives exactly one year and five days after her last album, "Loud," hit stores. That album is still going strong on the charts, as is its latest single, "Cheer (Drink To That)". Coming so soon after her last full-length, "Talk That Talk" feels like a special present for Rihanna's navy of fans, and an oddly rushed-out release to the objective music fan. Why not wait a bit and let the buzz of "Loud" settle in?

Because, as a few listens of "Talk That Talk" proves, Rihanna just won't let her reign let up. The Barbadian pop star came a little too close to a misfire with "Rated R," her 2009 album and her first since her destructive relationship with Chris Brown ended. "Rated R" was fascinating but at times too dark, while "Loud" was the blissed-out antidote pop fans craved, a cavalcade of cheeky erotica and stunning production. After reclaiming her crown on "Loud" and proving her longevity, Rihanna is not about to take any sort of break to let her pop princess competitors catch up. Haters can "talk that talk," but in the end, Rihanna's going to do her thing, put out a new album and collect more No. 1 singles.

Rihanna is shooting for more crowd-pleasing music and what's more universal than the concept of love? "We Found Love," "Drunk on Love," "We All Want Love" and other "Talk" songs that don't happen to have "Love" in the title all offer simple, gorgeous-sounding accounts of romance. And when she's not needing love, she's wanting sex; Rihanna coos, "I love it, I love it, I love it when you eat it," on "Cockiness (Love It)," and we're pretty sure she's not talking about the chicken pot pie she left for dinner. Although the lyrics on "Talk That Talk" are broad, the soundscapes here are even more dance-floor-appropriate, with tracks like "We Found Love" and "Where Have You Been" barely masking their European pop influences. "Talk That Talk" often thrives when Rihanna is unafraid to step aside and let this nasty collections of beats do the talking.

As quickly as it's being released after "Loud," "Talk That Talk" is a fleshed-out statement that captures Rihanna's relentless drive and will likely keep her on top. This album's not a victory lap; it's a whole new race.

Which songs on Rihanna's "Talk That Talk" are among her best work?

1. You Da One - Not as heart-pounding as "We Found Love," but second single's reggae roots, earnest lyrics make for a nice curveball.

2. Where Have You Been - Electronic fury, with a beat that slices through Rihanna's yearning and builds to "Sandstorm" insanity. Dance, fool!

3. We Found Love - Through a haze of glitter and bliss, Rihanna emerges to let us find a gorgeous hook in a hopeless place, and Calvin Harris becomes a household name.

4. Talk That Talk - The "Umbrella" duo reunites, with Jay-Z dropping more double entendres and Rihanna in cruise control over a descending beat.

5. Cockiness (Love It) - "Suck my cockiness, lick my persuasion," Rihanna sings with a knowing wink over this Bangladesh-helmed sequel to "S&M." Filthy and fantastic, when it gets going.

6. Birthday Cake - Look, we're all for birthday-themed naughtiness in pop music form. But only 78 seconds of "Birthday Cake" is just not enough of a celebration!

7. We All Want Love - "We all wanna be somebody's one and only." It's a sentiment Rihanna expresses with aching seriousness over a grounded guitar riff on this affecting ballad.

8. Drunk on Love - Dynamic production. Killer sample of the xx. Rihanna displaying full range. It all comes together on "Drunk on Love."

9. Roc Me Out - More come-ons over a twinkling synth-pop instrumental. Enjoyably tawdry, but we've heard it more interestingly earlier in the album.

10. Watch N Learn - Rihanna professes to being a sexpert, and offers her guys a few tips. The balance between synths and percussion is taut and engaging here.

11. Farewell - A kiss-off anthem that's structurally similar to Beyonce's "Halo" and gets a boost from a powerhouse bridge. Farewell until next November, Rihanna?

Girls' Generation Making Its American Dream Come True

After its performance on Oct. 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Girls' Generation has continued to receive rave reviews from both critics and press worldwide. Due to its outstanding showing at this American concert, the girl group can now rightfully be named one of the international representatives of K-Pop.

Girls' Generation recently released its title song, "The Boys," from its third regular album, which has earned a spot in the top 5 on Billboard's K-Pop Hot 100 chart ever since its debt. "The Boys", created a lot of buzz even before the single's release, as it was produced by none other than Teddy Riley - the famed producer of the late pop legend, Michael Jackson. The group also released an English version of this hit track for their international listeners. Girls' Generation's music video was recently released on YouTube and has already garnered over 17 million views - proving the girl group's internationally spreading fame. The girls are under contract with Universal Music Group, which also boasts such talents as Lady Gaga, Eminem, and the Black Eyed Peas. This past June, this K-pop girl group released its second album in Japan, which shot to the top of the Billboard Japan weekly chart by selling an impressive 230,000 copies.

Since its debut, Girls' Generation has continued to top the music charts in Asia, and now the girls are seeking to finally break into the US market. As their name states, the girls are seeking to represent a new generation of female Korean artists conquering the global music market.

Girls' Generation is managed by SM Entertainment, one of Korea's largest entertainment agencies, which has developed other top Korean artists such as HOT, BOA, TVXQ, and SUPER JUNIOR. This nine-member girl group is by far one of the most versatile groups in the SM Entertainment arsenal. Each of the nine members brings a unique individual talent/color to the group, which allows Girls' Generation to command a diverse fan following.

The leader of the group, Taeyeon, who won first place at the SM Youth Singing Competition, is known for her vocal abilities. Tiffany and Jessica, both born and raised in the States, are known for their fluency in both Korean and English. Hyoyeon made a name for herself as the dancing queen of pack. Youri and Yuna were previously fashion models and Seohyun and Sunny are well-rounded vocal artists due to their long and arduous training under SM Entertainment. The girls debuted in August of 2008 with their first single "Into the New World". Their first single was a bright and cheerful song that gained adequate attention from the public, however, was not the blockbuster that many industry experts expected. Three months later, however, they released a remake of Lee Seung Chul's 1989 hit song, "Girls' Generation", which first helped them gain a strong domestic fan base.

The release of the single "Gee" propelled the girls into stardom. With a catchy melody and chorus, as well an irresistibly addictive and adorable choreography, Girls' Generation started its domination of the Korean music industry. The group's ascendancy didn't stop there -- five months later, they released "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)," which saw Girls' Generation stand tall as the No.1 girl group in Korea. Every album that Girls' Generation released afterwards has proven to be a major success.  The repackaged second album, "Run Devil Run," saw the girls showcase a new sexy charisma that contrasted starkly from their previous cutesy image. Their new found sex appeal helped the young ladies widen their fan-base from mostly female teens to the male population of Korea. Girls' Generation also has the unique distinction of being the singers most requested to perform before the Korean Army.

After sufficiently dominating the Korean music market, Girls' Generation ventured off to conquer the Japan music market as well. The girl group released "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" in the Japanese language followed by their first debut Japanese album, "Genie", which sold over 75,000 albums within 4 weeks. This album secured top tier positions on Billboard Japan's album sales charts and their second single "Gee" sold over a hundred thousand copies, and helped this girl group become the face of K-POP to the Japanese public.

On June 1, 2011, they released their first full-length original Japanese studio album Girls' Generation. This album contains 12 songs including the singles "Genie", “Gee”, "Run Devil Run", "MR. TAXI" and a Japanese version of "Hoot". Girls' Generation was certified Double Platinum (500,000) by Recording Industry Association of Japan, a first for any Korean girl group. The group also set a record for "recording the highest sales of the FIRST album as a foreign artist in Japan. Girls' Generation is the fourth artist to obtained number 1 spot on weekly album chart after BoA, TVXQ and Big Bang," and became the third Korean artist to surpass the 500,000 mark after BoA and TVXQ. As a result of their rising popularity, Girls' Generation became the highest earning foreign artist in Japan for the first half of 2011.

The girls' newest and English-only single, "The Boys", is causing a commotion throughout the world and is turning their dream of being charted in America, into a reality. The sky's the limit for the young ladies of Girls' Generation!

SNSD on their new concept, their past, and future plans

SNSD, who was once referred to as the nation’s dongseng girl group, has grown up and tossed aside their aegyo image. The girls, who used to sing “I love oppa” in their songs, have matured to a point where they can confidently tell “The Boys”, “I’ll lead you.”

This transformation comes as no surprise, since the girls are about to make their debut as a world star through their 3rd official album, which was released on October 19th. In addition to their songs being sold all over the world through iTunes, their single will also be released in the U.S. in November through Interscope Records.

Still, the girls who came in for the interview were as cute and lovable as ever, and they were brimming with a natural self-confidence. They stated, “We really like transformations,” and that “We were the one who insisted on doing the more powerful dances in this song. We want to show [a SNSD] who continuously grows and matures.”

They had an interview with OSEN :

What are thoughts about the release of the 3rd album? It was a little delayed.
Taeyeon – “SNSD has received a lot of love from all over the world. We prepared this album in return [for all the love].”
Sooyoung – “We were a little disappointed about the delay in our comeback since we, in our hearts and minds, were ready. But, since the delay was because of the venture into the U.S., it was all good. I think this will be a meaningful comeback.”

You worked with the famous producer Teddy Riley. How did you feel?
Sunny – “He brought a comfortable atmosphere. Rather than putting in special requests, he just told us to sing. He catered to the members, so a lot of the members’ individual colors were incorporated.”
Seohyun – “He complimented us a lot while we were recording. He also danced to the song.”

Are you satisfied with your title song, “The Boys”?
Tiffany – “SNSD’s songs hardly have any raps. This was our first time showing off our rap skills, so we were really anticipating it. I think the song came out well, so I’m very pleased. Instead of SNSD’s usual lively and girly image, we are anticipating that a more mature and cooler image will be shown [through this comeback].”

The choreography has become more powerful.
Sooyoung - “We tried hard to make it match the song, however, it’s not as aggressive or powerful as we thought initially. The ‘going down’ movement during the rap portion came about because there needed to be an impact at that point. The choreography team was trying to decide whether or not to include that move, but we insisted that we’d do it. They asked if it would be okay to just have 4 of the members do it, but all the members stated that they wanted to do it.” (laughs)

What did you emphasize the most in this 3rd album?
Sooyoung – “We tried to branch out so that we wouldn’t be limited to just one genre. If you listen to the album as a whole, you’ll see that rather than just a catchy hook phrase, the overall composition [of the song] is done well. Our vocals were heavily emphasized as well.”

This was the first time that Sooyoung composed.
Sooyoung – “I thought about what it would be like if there was someone who gave me such immense love. If there is someone who gives you a lot of love, this is a song you can listen to while you think of that person.”

I’ve heard that you are studying a lot about composing and producing, but your ideas don’t seem to be included a lot.
Tiffany – “I composed the English rap in “The Boys”.
Taeyeon – “I’m practicing a lot, but they are very strict. They don’t give us any advantage because we are SNSD members. We have to compete on the same playing field as regular composers and producers.”

“The Boys” image was surprising because it is much stronger than the usual SNSD image.
Sunny – “The lyrics’ [meaning] are up to the interpretation [of the listeners']. Rather than just the simple meaning of girls giving boys support, it can be interpreted in many ways. The girls could be telling the boys that we’ll take the lead, giving off a more tough image. It could also be interpreted as girls telling the boys to get their act together and cheer up. (laughs) The song is also aims to give courage to people, whether they’re girls or guys, who are tired out [by life].”
Seohyun – “With every album we release, we want to show you our growth. During the 1st album, we wore tennis shoes and showed you a young girl image. After that, we wore a white T-shirt and jeans like a college student. For this time also, we want to grow musically as well as in other areas.”
Taeyeon – “We really like transformations. I think fans also want to keep seeing different sides of us as well.”

You have accomplished a lot in the past year. What is it that you remember?
Seohyun – “Japan tour. Personally, I think I have learned a lot about how to enjoy the stage. I think I learned how to collaborate with fans for the first time. The collaboration between ourselves has gotten even better also.”
Tiffany - “During the Arena Tour, which had all of us traveling together for 3 months, the members spent a lot of time together and conversed a lot. It was another chance for [our friendship] to be strengthened. We ate yummy food and went to a hot spring, just as if we were on a field trip.”
Jessica – “The concert in Paris is memorable for me. Paris is my dream city.”
Yuri – “I also remember Paris the most. It was very sentimental. People with hairs of all different colors were singing along to Korean lyrics. Just the fact that they knew who we were made it so enjoyable.”

What are things you want to accomplish in the future?
Taeyeon - “To hold our own concert at Japan’s Tokyo Dome.”
Tiffany – “I want to try a world tour. I want to visit South America.”

You must feel a sense of responsibility as a representative of Korean singers.
Yoona – “There is a sense of responsibility and pressure, but we are thankful that people see us as leaders. We don’t set up a goal and say ‘we have to achieve it’. Rather, we just enjoy each moment and try to bond with each other more. I think that’s why good things have been happening. We are honored to be a part of this great time period to let more people know about K-Pop.”

Have you made a goal for your venture into the U.S.?
Tiffany – “Of course we have goals and anticipations, but we think that even having the opportunity to challenge ourselves is meaningful in itself. Rather than a venture, we just want to pay back our fans.”

It seems that you might have to promote with Wonder Girls.
Taeyeon – “I’m very curious, what kind of song will they come out with? I have a friend within the group, so I think I’ll be glad to see her.”

When rookie girl groups debut, they are often compared to SNSD. You are brought up a lot.
Seohyun - “To make us even a subject of discussion is an honor for us. Honestly, even when people say ‘SNSD, you’re amazing’, I’m still not sure. (laughs) So I think that I really have to try even harder.”

You are quite a ‘sunbae‘ ['senior'] group now.
Yoona – “It’s not because we’re getting old, it’s because many young girls have been coming out. (laughs)”
Yuri – “I was in the waiting room while serving as the MC for MBC‘s ‘Music Core’ when hoobaes came to greet me with their albums. It feels like it we had been doing just that just a few days ago, so it was a weird feeling.”
Sooyoung – “Truthfully, we didn’t have much of a chance to see sunbae female singers’ performances. We saw Lee Hyori sunbae, Beyonce, and Christina Aguilera‘s concerts, but we heard that the hoobaes these days want to see SNSD’s performance. They also said they were influenced by us. It was a very weird feeling, but at the same time made us very proud and happy.”

What has been the past 4 years like for SNSD?
Sunny – “To be honest, we didn’t know anything in the beginning and just went for it. As time passed, we started to develop a know-how. However more time passed, and we thought ‘Ah, there really isn’t a trick to all this’. But we were very proud and happy that we have been able to achieve a lot of things during the 4 years. Rather than thinking about the past 4 years, we are trying to figure out how to move forward.”
